Why manual rent collection is slow and risky
Many landlords in Ghana still collect rent in cash or through informal MoMo transfers. That means repeated phone calls, long trips to meet tenants, handwritten receipts that can be disputed, and no easy way to prove payment in court or for tax purposes.
Automating rent collection solves four problems at once: speed, record-keeping, trust and scale. Whether you manage one family house in East Legon or a portfolio of units across Accra and Kumasi, the same workflow applies.
Mobile Money networks you can use
Homellery connects to Paystack, which supports the three major mobile money networks in Ghana. Tenants can pay with any of them, and landlords receive the funds into a single wallet.
MTN Mobile Money
Widest coverage in Ghana. Tenants pay from any MTN number and you receive the rent in your Homellery wallet.
Telecel Cash
Formerly Vodafone Cash. Useful for tenants on the Telecel network who prefer network-specific mobile money.
AirtelTigo Money
A single wallet for Airtel and Tigo subscribers, and a common way tenants pay their rent.
Step-by-step: set up automated rent collection
The process below is the same on Homellery for a single room in Madina or a full apartment building in Airport Residential.
List the property and add units
Create the property with its region, district, GhanaPost GPS address and photos. Add each unit with rent, deposit and tenancy status.
Verify the property and your identity
Upload your Ghana Card and ownership documents. Verified properties earn a badge, and tenants take them more seriously.
Invite the tenant
Send a secure email invitation to the tenant's address. The invitation is tied to that email, so only the invited person can accept it.
Create a digital lease
Set the rent amount, due day, lease term and deposit. Homellery generates the rent schedule automatically.
Tenant pays with Mobile Money
The tenant pays from their MoMo, Telecel Cash, AirtelTigo Money or card. Funds settle into your Homellery wallet instantly.
Receive receipts and reminders automatically
Both parties get email and in-app receipts. Overdue reminders are sent without you chasing anyone.
Ghana Card KYC: why it matters
Ghana's new identity framework allows landlords to verify tenants using only the Ghana Card number. On Homellery, tenants enter their Ghana Card number during profile setup. The platform records the number for audit and dispute resolution without storing unnecessary biometric data.
This replaces unreliable paper copies of ID cards and gives you a verified identity trail for every lease. It also helps tenants build a trust score over time, which landlords see when reviewing applications.
What changes when you automate
No more collection days
Rent arrives in your wallet as soon as the tenant pays. You do not need to meet in person or queue at a MoMo vendor.
Automatic receipts
Every payment generates a branded PDF receipt with the tenant name, property, unit, amount and transaction reference.
Verified tenants
Tenants complete Ghana Card KYC before they can pay or sign a lease, reducing identity fraud and rental disputes.
Transparent ledger
Your ledger shows every credit, debit and commission with a receipt. Export a statement anytime for accounting or tax filing.
Frequently asked questions
Do tenants need a Homellery account to pay rent?
Yes. The tenant creates a free account and is linked to the exact unit you invited them to. This keeps the payment history, lease and receipts in one place.
How soon do I see a rent payment?
As soon as the tenant completes the payment. The rent schedule is marked paid, the amount shows in your finance centre and both of you get a receipt.
What if a tenant pays late?
Homellery sends automatic due-date and overdue reminders by email and in-app notification. You can also view overdue rent and send a payment request from your dashboard.
Can I use this for commercial property?
The same workflow works for residential, commercial and mixed-use properties. Set the unit type and rent cycle that match your lease terms.
